Today I opened my dishwasher and I was totally taken aback by some nasty oder that shot out and tried to kill me. After verifying that, in fact, no small animals had met their death and were decomposing inside it, I moved on to the few dishes inside it. Nope, all rinsed. Not the culprits.
I'm not the first person in the world with a foul smelling dishwasher (right? right?). So I did a Google search. No, I'm not (phew!).
The solution (no pun intended) - vinegar. I took all the dishes out of the dishwasher and filled the detergent dispenser with vinegar. The site I found said you can use up to a cup; I probably used about 1/4 c. because that's all that fit in there. Run the dishwasher on your hottest setting, hold your breath as you open it and... breathe again, because it doesn't smell anymore!
Happy holiday weekend... may your next few days be filled with fun, friends and a clean smelling dishwasher.
And if you're in Cincinnati, fireworks! More on that to come later this weekend....

ReplyDeleteoh and did you make your banner or have it made? if you had it made can you email my by whom?
I need to try this. I think it's time. While the smell isn't HORRIBLE, I wouldn't say it's perfectly clean. Thanks for the tip.

ReplyDeleteMarni @ Sassy Sites!
I just realized that I wasn't "following" your blog... now I am! :)
ReplyDeleteI started reading your post, and before I can't past the first sentence I jumped up to go smell my dishwasher!!! Hahaha, I am such a goon! THEN I came back and read the rest. I have always used vinegar, so I guess that's why I didnt smell anything. But I use because I read somewhere that it was a good rinse agent, now I know it helps with smell too!!! :-)
