The day our rehearsal dinner floated away

I think enough time has passed that this story can be funny. I think.

We booked our rehearsal dinner last summer. Zac and his mom chose The Waterfront, which is a swanky Jeff Ruby restaurant just over the river in Covington, Kentucky.  It is built on a floating barge, and is literally directly on the waterfront. It is known in the city for great steaks, a wonderful atmosphere, and incredible city views. Like this one:

A few weeks ago, Zac was in Atlanta for his bachelor party. I was trying to be studious and get ahead on school work, enjoying a marathon session of "Say Yes to the Dress." Around 11 PM, I flipped on the local news before heading to bed. And I saw this:

Yeah, that's the restaurant. Floated down the river. Stuck under a bridge.  You can watch a video of it here.

Long story short, no one was hurt, but they had to evacuate all of the diners and use tug  boats to push it back into place.  Oh - and it's not reopening anytime soon. Oh - and our rehearsal dinner was THREE WEEKS AWAY!!!!

Thankfully, it's funny now because we have secured a wonderful new rehearsal dinner location that we like even more. While all's well that ends well, it definitely gave us a bit of a fright in the short-term!

Hopefully that's the biggest mishap we face between now and the wedding! We got our marriage license today (almost) without a hitch - we're almost ready!!

We're getting married in 8 days!!!!!!!!!

  1. I'm so glad you found somewhere else that was equally as lovely. What are the ODDS? I would have had a flip-out, at least for a moment before I calmed myself.

My DJ and I had to fire each other 12 days before our wedding. That was quite the conundrum. And it happened to happen as I'm in my car, in a very expensive suit (I always remember what I was wearing) on the way to a HUGE meeting for work (at the busiest time of my work year). I got off the phone, called my mom and she was fabulous and told me she'd handle it. She ended up getting the most awesome DJ and all was well.

But Lord, I thought I was going to have a meltdown for a moment there.

Sending lots of positive and happy thoughts your way, friend. You have a WONDERFUL day. Can't wait to hear all about it.
