Recipes of Love

One of my favorite wedding shower gifts was a recipe holder from Longaberger Baskets (thanks, Gramma!).  It came with a thick stack of recipe cards, and Zac and I had a great idea for them.

After Zac's grandmother passed away last year, one of his mom's most cherished possessions from her are the recipes that she wrote. She wrote them out very clearly, as if she thought that none of us would ever be able to follow her directions! Reading them in her handwriting sounds like she's talking directly to you.

So we're taking our new recipe cards and sending them to our friends and family with requests for our favorite recipes, as well as some of their favorites we might not know about. Only catch? We want them handwritten. Years from now, I want to be able to tell my kids about their great-aunt as we're making her favorite casserole, or make their grandmother's best friend's delicious coffee cake recipe, and tell them how she would share with anyone except my mother.

I think I'm getting more and more sentimental as the wedding approaches! Do you have any cherished recipes?

  1. Great idea!! One of my favorites is a hot chicken salad from my paternal grandmother and that I have written down by my aunt who passed away a few years ago. There's always a little sentimental mushiness when I get that recipe out.

  2. That's a great idea! I love sharing recipes. My mom has some yummy soup recipes that I use, and my grandma has a delicous apple pastry recipe that I have been too intimidated to try, but someday I will. :)

  6. That's a great idea! We had a wedding shower with Scott's family that required everyone to bring me a handwritten recipe. I think that was so cool! Now, I need a handy recipe holder like yours :) You are going to get some great recipes!

  7. T,
For Christmas this year, Chris's mother-in-law made scans of my great-grandmother's Coca-Cola cake. It's wonderful. Also, maybe if you're lucky you'll get the coffee-cake recipe. :)
