This month, we're reading:
If you have any science background (which I do not), you will have heard of HeLa cells. HeLa cells are a type of cancer cell that was removed from Henrietta Lacks in the 1950s, and have since been proven to be immortal. At issue in this book is consent for medical research and what happened to Henrietta's family. Not a page-turner, but worth the read.
This novel is set in rural Kentucky at a home for unwed mothers. The protagonist is different from the other women, as she actually has a husband. So far, this is an easier read than the other book, and a story that I want to discover the end to!
What are you reading these days?
Oooooh that first one sounds interesting! I've been wanting to read Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother ever since I heard NPR interview that crazy woman who wrote it. But I have moral issues with actually buying the book written by said crazy woman. I over-analyze things :(
ReplyDeleteOhh Patron Saints of Liars is on my list so I would love to what you think when you finish.
ReplyDeleteI just read The Apothecary's Daughter -- loved it!!
1+1=3 -- I read Battle Hymn and it is flat our crazy. Even though the interviews sais "You will get IT after reading" I never did. I borrowed it so I felt better haha
